Verity is a graduate of the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy, a member of the Ontario Osteopathic Association (OOA) and has continued her education to include Osteopathic treatment of infants. Given half a chance, she could happily talk about Osteopathy all day long but would much prefer that people experience it for themselves. Her approach to treatment is centred around removing the root cause of dysfunction and helping patients of all ages rediscover their optimal health.
Just like it’s impossible to touch a single thread of a spider’s web without affecting the whole thing, her experience receiving Osteopathic treatments taught her that sometimes the areas of the body where pain or discomfort are felt are just the effect of dysfunction in a completely different area. She also discovered that Osteopathy was not a form of wizardry but a way of thinking about the body and how the parts relate to each other structurally.
Osteopathy can include craniosacral work as well as visceral work, depending on what is needed at the time. Visceral work includes manipulation of the abdominal viscera and fascia, while craniosacral work is generally done on the cranium and/or sacrum but can include other areas too.
Practice Style:
Verity works in a way that calms the nervous system while making structural changes to the body. Sometimes the area where we feel pain is just a result of another area not working as it should, so it’s important that we check how all the parts of the body are moving and working together. There are many Osteopathic tools that can be utilized, and those vary based on what it is the body needs and how it responds to treatment.
In her spare time, she enjoys hiking and mountain biking with her family or reading a book in the sunshine. She’s also been known to optimistically take on physical activities like mud runs that leave her wondering whose terrible idea it was to begin with (always hers!).
