We’ve got some exciting news here at Sprout! Come April, our Kinesiologist, Aaron Coulthard, will be an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner with the Ontario Osteopathic Association (OOA). This means you’ll be able to book treatments with him for all of your muscle-skeletal aches and imbalances.
What exactly is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a profession that uses manual assessment and treatment to impact the body’s structure and improve its function. Osteopaths use their knowledge of physiology and anatomy to assess what is out of order and then realign it using manual therapy. As the Ontario Osteopathic Associations explains, osteopaths “find the health, rather than focus on disease.” They continue: “Understanding and adjusting the anatomical unity of the human structure is our job.” Treatments work to put right body mechanics, nerve impulses, and the circulation of body fluids, in order to restore you to optimal health.
Osteopathic Manual Therapy follows the theory that imbalances in the human structure are connected to the progression of disease. Because our bodies self-regulate and self-heal, osteopaths work with the body’s natural capacities to help remove obstructions in order to restore proper function and drainage of the body’s tissues. Osteopathic manual therapists view the body as a holistic, connected system. When one aspect of the system is off, the entire system can be affected and suffer. Treatments work to align body mechanics, nerve impulses, and the circulation of body fluids in order to restore one to optimal health.
