With summer well under way, I start to become a little more conscious of my skin and what I am putting on it. Educating myself on natural Beauty products has been a journey. I have had luxury of sampling and experimenting with endless products lines while working at some of best health stores in Toronto and Kitchener-Waterloo since 2007.
Why is natural beauty so important to me? Because what you put on your skin daily has an accumulative effect. In Canada, the regulation on beauty products is lax compared to that of the UK. Starting from birth we are exposed to toxic ingredients via everyday products. The skin is our largest organ, and it soak up everything we put on it! The effects are more than skin deep and I see the evidence on my microscope daily.
So here is the low down on Andrea’s top 7 must have beauty products:
- Deodorant – Consonant’s Dealkalizing deodorant is hands down my favorite B.O. superstar. This deodorant stick does not leave you feeling wet like so many natural deodorants and it actually works!
- Toothpaste – Jason Sea Fresh Toothpaste has a great consistency compared to most SLS and fluoride free toothpastes, and it is a refreshing mint flavor. I’m just not down with apricot and fennel toothpastes.
- Face Wash – Foaming Face Wash by Consonant is economical, balances all skin types and minimizes pores. The most problematic skin types will like this face wash.
- Facial Moisturizer and Toner – Rosey Cheeks and Rose Dew by Cocoon Apothecary is light weight, moisturizing, and a little goes a long way which makes this product very cost effective. This local family company also has a recycling program and all of their products come in glass jars. BONUS!
- Mascara – It is a toss-up between Gabriel and Lavera. Gabriel mascara is great for an everyday look where as Lavera has several mascaras depending on what you are going for (i.e. volume, lengthening etc). These are MAC quality product
s in my opinion.
- Liquid Foundation and Tinted Moisturizer – Lavera has a great color selection and their products are long-lasting and apply flawlessly.
- Nail polish – Attention all you mani-pedi lovers! Nail polish is loaded with toxins and because how long we keep it on our nails it has a long time to soak in! Butter London, though expensive is worth it due its quality. Their color selection is also modern and fun.
I could go on and on but I always suggest that when you are starting to convert take it one product at a time.
