You’ve just had a baby, but you’re not bouncing back to your old self… now what?
As sombre as the topic may be, post-partum blues and post-partum depression impact a huge number of women. While post-partum blues can essentially be considered the norm (impacting between 40-80% of women ) post-partum depression affects between 1 in 7 to 1 in 12 women.
Some of the major signs of post-partum depression include:
- Sadness, tearfulness, irritability, and anxiety
- Fatigue – to the point of impacting your daily activities
- Loss of appetite or interest in food
- Insomnia
- Low libido
With the change in sleep routines and the added stress of a new little one, some of symptoms are within the normal range of a new mother. However, if these symptoms persist longer than 2 weeks post-partum, or are impacting your activities of daily living, it is worthwhile to seek out a professional for added support.
So if you, or a loved one, may be suffering from post-partum blues or depression, don’t hesitate to give us a call. Support is my #1 recommendation for getting women back to their norm – so you can enjoy the newest member of your family!
