At Sprout, we are excited to welcome an Ayurvedic student Kanchan Ladhar (cand Feb 2024) for
this fall. She will be in the office, seeing patients every alternating Tuesday and Wednesday for Ayurvedic assessments and
treatments.
About Kanchan:
Kanchan is an Ayurvedic Health Counsellor Intern in association with the California College of
Ayurveda. She is dedicated to understanding each patient as a whole person, physically,
emotionally, and spiritually. Her goal is to help support patients in making healthy lifestyle
changes that bring the body back into balance.
Upon graduating from Wilfrid Laurier University with a Bachelor of Arts in Honours Communication Studies, she observed the prevalence of disease (dis-ease) and distress in others around her in both body and mind, sparking her curiosity about ancient philosophy and food medicine. Her question: “What practices have humans followed in ancient times to live a very long, healthy, and balanced life?” led her to the path of Ayur-Veda, which translates to “the science of life.”
What is Ayurvedic Medicine:
Ayurveda is roughly a 5,000-year-old practice of restoring proper balance of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas in your body through a personalized treatment plan catered to one’s unique constitution. Vata (air & ether), Pitta (fire & water), and Kapha (earth & water) are elemental qualities found in all of creation more or less. Each element carries distinct qualities with a function of its own. No two people are alike, as each person reflects a unique constitution or make-up of who they are, and so does their medicine. Finding a balancing ‘lifestyle medicine’ for an imbalanced dosha uncovers the root of dis-ease; supporting a person back to optimal health and healing.
“Nothing is right for everyone, and everything is right for someone. Ayurveda is a path of what is right for you.”
Who is an ideal client for Ayurvedic Assessments?
Ayurvedic medicine is best suited for individuals seeking lifestyle support for physical and mental imbalances or those looking to further enhance their current well-being through a complete analysis of their constitution at birth and any present imbalanced qualities.
Kanchan’s scope of practice includes dietary and lifestyle recommendations as well as holistic counselling that takes into consideration a patient’s unique nature, disease, and medicine. These therapies are applied to best restore a patient’s energetic balance and support the body’s natural healing capabilities.
What to expect:
Initial (90 min):
Includes a review of medical history, past and current symptoms, a review of dietary and lifestyle patterns, and an Ayurvedic assessment of health and imbalances. A physical assessment is done, including structural analysis, tongue analysis, and pulse taking.
*Follow-up Visits and Report of Findings Visit (30-60 min): Includes a summary of the intake evaluation and treatment suggestions, including your constitution balancing lifestyle adjustments, dietary changes, herbs, colour therapy, sound therapy, aroma therapy, massage therapy, and other natural therapeutics catered to your doshas.
*Report of Findings visit is included in the initial consultation fee. It includes suggestions that have been reviewed by a supervising Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist and a personalized lifestyle program summary that is implemented and broken down at each Follow-Up Visit to create sustainable lifelong changes.
*Follow-up visits include a check-in on recommendations the patient was given in the previous visit, treatment plan progress of healthy habits, any ongoing challenges, and their current state of doshas through a re-assessment of tongue and pulse
