At week 8 of quarantine, I imagine you are feeling similar to me – antsy with less things to do, sluggish from staring at your phone or computer all day, optimistic that this can’t last forever, and possibly a little low without the regular social and life interaction that we are accustomed to. I feel you – although each of our situations are unique, we can all agree that life has changed for each and every one of us.
Highs and Lows
Adjusting to this new life has presented some serious challenges. After setting up a home office and never having the right thing, to finding the motivation to put on non-stretch pants, COVID has left me (and I’m sure others) feeling exhausted and frustrated with this newfound lack of freedom. Social distancing has been tough on many of us. Discussions of what is allowed and how long this will last, happen on the daily. Adding in the general fear of not knowing the future or if this tickle in my throat is COVID, has created a perfect storm for feeling blue.
On the flip side, slowing down has definitely had some benefits.
When expectations for work productivity lower there is more space to drink an extra cup of coffee, fully read an email, or actually think about what matters – personally and professionally. I’ve had a chance to be extra grateful for so many amazing things. I am grateful for the reporters and journalists keeping me informed of what’s going on in the world, for the music, literature, and movies that distract and entertain me, and for the spring sunshine that dramatically improves my mood.
But the biggest question on everyone’s mind, is where do we go from here?
On the Business Front
As a business the highs and lows have also presented themselves. With such uncertainty there are real fears for small business longevity. All of our bottom lines have suffered and yet the #supportlocal campaigns have had such a positive impact on our community. I’ve never thought more about the places and businesses I love and how I can support them. I am so grateful for the people and patients who’ve taken the time to send us an email, book a visit, or drive out to pick up product – your support means a lot!
Despite not knowing what the future holds, I am optimistic that we will be opening our doors soon, albeit with some changes. Although I can’t tell you when our doors will be open, here’s some ideas on ways we may adjust to keep you, and us, safe:
- More time between appointments for thorough cleaning between patients
- No waiting room but instead we call you from your car, when the office is empty and ready for you to enter
- IV patients spaced out in separate rooms with designated call buttons
- Practitioners wearing masks and/or gloves during treatments
- Virtual appointments for those suffering with fever, cough, or other flu-like symptoms
Although none of this is set in stone, we want to assure you we are thinking up new ways to make the clinic a safe space for healing. Slowly but surely, we are all adjusting to a new norm as we wrestle with the reality of this risk, and determine how we can live with that.
However this rollercoaster has impacted you, I genuinely hope you know you’re not alone. We care about your wellbeing and we can’t wait to see you again!
Take care,
Dr Chanel ND
