Who doesn’t love to eat out once in a while? As a foodie, exploring new restaurants and cafés in KW is my absolute favourite pastime, but finding healthful places to dine out isn’t always easy. Although many menus are starting to offer gluten-free and vegetarian options, the selection is often limited and the quality can be questionable. Just because a dish is vegetarian doesn’t mean it is healthy!
Many of my patients often ask where they can get a reliable healthy meal, especially if I prescribe a cleanse. Whether you have dietary restrictions, ethical preferences, or are undertaking a food elimination diet, cleanse, or detoxification program, I have some fantastic options for you to try!
Below are some of the best places in KW and Guelph that you can rely on a fresh and nutritious meal.
1. Seven Shores Community Café (Thoughtfully Sourced, Vegetarian Friendly) Regina St., Waterloo
2. Café Pyrus (Organic Vegetarian/Vegan restaurant) Charles St., Kitchener
3. Jane Bond (Vegetarian/Vegan restaurant) Princess St., Waterloo
4. Raintree Café (Vegetarian Friendly) King St., Waterloo
5. Borealis Grill (Local seasonal ingredients, Natural ingredients) King St. Kitchener + Gordon St. Guelph
6. Thrive Energy Lab (Vegan, Raw, and Smoothie/Juice bar) King St., Waterloo
7. Nic + Nats Uptown 21 (Local seasonal ingredients) King St., Waterloo
8. East African Café (Vegan platter available) Ontario St.., Kitchener
9. My Thai (Gluten free, Vegetarian/Vegan options) King St., Uptown Waterloo
10. Cornerstone (Vegetarian/Vegan + Live Music!) Wyndham St., Guelph
Recently a patient shared with me that there is a group called the ‘KW Vegan Society’ that plans vegan dinners across the city! Who knew? If you have any other community cuisine gems you would like to share, the team at Sprout would love to know!
Everyone deserves a night out on the town that doesn’t leave their bellies swollen and aching. This fall get out and enjoy our beautiful community and some local cuisine that will leave you energized and satisfied.
Bon Appetit!

Wonderful article. We just came back from a great holiday in Portugal with lots of wonderful food. Nice to hear about some interesting restaurants, we have been to a few on the list. Which ones have you personally sampled? Simone ( Chanel’s mom) to ” The pregnant one”. – Having children is the most exciting thing you will experience!
